If you have a problem or question you may be able to find the answer here.
Turbidity refers to the cloudiness or opacity of your system water. It is caused by thousands of microscopic particles of suspended rust, sludge, and debris floating through the pipes.
.Dark water indicates extremely high turbidity, almost always caused by dissolved magnetite (iron oxide). This means the inside of your radiators is actively rusting away and turning into a thick sludge.
Thick, turbid water struggles to absorb and transfer heat efficiently. It forces the central heating pump to work harder, eventually causing it to burn out, and it blocks the narrow channels inside the boiler's heat exchanger.
If caught early, minor turbidity can sometimes be cleared by carrying out a basic flush, installing a magnetic filter and using chemical cleaners. However, heavily turbid, pitch-black water usually requires a professional mechanical flush to remove the heavy deposits.
The kit allows you to visually assess the water against a standardized clarity chart. It provides a definitive answer on whether the system water is clear enough to pass manufacturer and BS7593:2019 standards.
